John M. Lane was a credit manager at a finance company in the 1950s when he identified a critical gap: there was no reliable, comprehensive directory of lending institutions. In July 1957, he launched the inaugural "Lane Creditors Guide" covering the Greater Los Angeles area — initially under the name "Lane Information Consolidated."
What began as a local publication quickly gained a reputation for accuracy and completeness. By the 1960s, coverage had expanded to all of Southern California. The 1990s brought nationwide coverage across all 50 states, and the 2000s ushered in the digital era with Lane Guide Online.
